Well, Just had our fair. Pumpkin finished out at 770lbs and squash at 594. I was very surprised to get somthing that big from our area. I figured it could be done. If I had put the time that you are supposed to put into a plant it should have went over 1000lbs. How are all the other growers in Canada doing? I'm going to get some pics on here soon.

Great job Ben...those are both impressive fruit. It is too early yet for any other weigh-offs in BC and most everybody will keep them plugged in for another month.

Were yours still growing when you harvested for weighing? Also, where was the fair and were there any other big pumpkins?

Jake Vankootens 1287 is at approx 1000lb at day 47. If she keeps moving i may have to give Jeff a visit in Windsor this year.

Our fair is a bit early here but we have almost been getting frost in the morning. They where both still growing when I cut them but i'm glad a took them off when I did because they both had cracks on the inside that where only about an inch from hitting the outside. Our fair is about 45min north of Kamloops. There was one other pumpkin there but it was small. One of my pumpkins that I cut off for part of the fair display was heavier then the other pumpkin. I have had alot of people asking for seeds. I also pland on giving a bunch to our local school so the kids can grow some. With a good summer here I thought that 500lb would be good but when it hit 770lb and we had a bad summer now I am wondering what the limit is here.

This has been my best year so far but one of the worst summers we've had in awhile. Plants got a slow start in the cold spring, which lead to late pollinations, and then there wasn't much of a summer more like an extended spring. We had our 1st frost in the area one night about 2 weeks ago, with nights lately 4-10 deg avg. Frost has evaded my patch so far. My biggest is sitting close to 400 lbs right now. I hope they can stay on the vine for another month or so, 500 is my goal.

i am growing with a friend near edmundston n.b. this year . they dont seam to grow as good as in hartland n.b. colder earley in the year. it is seaming to slow down arond 588lb . edmund hemphill is having a good year. in mount pleasant n.b. he seams to have 6 pumpkins growing between 800lb to 1000lb i think he will win in neguac this year.

Hi Prin

We visited with Edmond Hemphill, Charles Ebbett, Bill & Dawn Northrup, Elizabeth Steeves & Dennis Daigle in mid-Aug. Most are members of the GVGO. Edmund had a few decent fruit growing when we visited, but so did a few of the other growers on the East Coast. I think we'll be pleasantly surprised with the weights coming from the East Coast this year. Good luck.
