The GVGO has posted a list, compiled by Russ Landry (kahuna), of past seed auction prices. I'm sure it will be useful if you are looking at a seed and want to know how much you should expect to pay for it. It may also help auctioneers set starting bids.

Check it out on our Articles and Files page (Files/Downloads section) at:

http://www.gvgo.ca/articles/

And, don't forget that some of the valuable seeds on the list can be won for only $5 (5 entries for only $20) in the GVGO's 2006 seed raffle. Check out the details, prize list, and progeny trees at:

It's just another way for the GVGO to help out our fellow growers. It will give growers an idea what certain seeds will go for in future auctions. The list covers auctions right back to 2003.

If the auction prices are too high for you, then check out the GVGO's 2nd Annual Raffle. For only $5 you get a chance at most of the seeds offered in all the auctions. Over 75 proven seeds available to be won, along with a few great crosses that haven't been proven yet, but that's only a matter of time. In total there's over 100 seeds available, with more being added as they arrive. Thanks Russ for all your hard work putting it together. Take care & good luck to all that support the GVGO.

Marc, John & Phil. Thanks for your tremendous support. I might add you guys have also been wonderful supporters of this immensely well organized group of growers in the GVGO from all over the world.

The GVGO's mission was founded on a free exchange of information to all growers worldwide not just in Ontario. It is something I strongly believe in. I lobbied the guys in Ontario hard to keep the web site open and free of costs. This determination was demonstrated in the clubs crafetly documented mission statement. The sport can only grow largely by promoting it as an everyday hobby for everyone to enjoy. Most growers out there are finding out that you don't have to be rich to enjoy what nature provides in your own backyard. On the other hand we are all, much richer for this spare-time recreational pursuit.

You gentlemen are the reason why the GVGO is one of the premier giant vegetable growers associations in the of gardening community and the GPC. Thank You all!

WOW, Thanks for the kind words. The GVGO is a club still in it's infant years. Our goals are to help our members reach a new PB by providing them with all the latest information available & to promote this great hobby/sport to gardeners from all around the World, not just Ontario. Russ is also one of the reasons the GVGO has grown. He's been a great help getting the GVGO up & running by writing articles, collecting data & has now organized a new weigh off (with Roy Lee-Cornerstone Weigh Off). He's an invaluable member of the GVGO Team, along with many others in Ontario & around the World. We currently have 175 members World wide, with more being added each week. Not bad for just completing our second full season. In closing I'd like to thank all GVGO members & the growers on this site for supporting the GVGO with their memberships & raffle purchases. Your support is gratefully appreciated.

That is a very nice chart. It would be cool to keep a chart like that year-over-year so as to see the various trends in seed value.

I'm with Ed...The GVGO is a great group.

I'm thinking that after this auction season is over, maybe we could integrate a graph into the file.

It would be neat to see a visual representation of price changes. It would look like the pumpkin stock market :-) But, it doesn't make any sense to do it until all of the auctions have completed and new prices are set.
