Two words: WATERMELON SEEDS. I only saw a few auctions that had any giant melon seeds. I think that if the clubs would put together a package of the melons weighed in at thier site and list that on the auctions, it would help us melon growers improve. Much the same way it has done for pumpkins, making the genetics available to play with. Clubs should keep melon seeds from year to year then get a higher price for them at auction once they are proven, like they do with pumpkins. Also make packages available through your seed sales programs every year of melons from those at your weigh-off, again just like pumpkins. I'd buy one from every club that offered a package like that and I bet I wouldn't be the only one...

Dewight, Just go to Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Growers website at www.ovgpg.com. The Neptunes grow watermelons and their seeds are for sale on this website. Loyd Bright sells seeds also. Erik

We did have one lot of watermelons! Just watermelons. It makes an auction longer but maybe with more demand for seed, more groups will have them.

Great advice everyone. But I am talking about the future here also. Would be neat if it would happen every year. Maybe I'm just wishing too hard...
