My name is Bryson Ensign and I am a 17 year old pumpkin fanatic. I have loved growing/attempting to grow pumpkin ever since I got hooked in second grade when I grew a whopping 27 pounder! Ever since that year, I have spent many hours trying to break my personal record though research, hard work and a little luck. Over the past couple years I have mailed out bubble packs across the U.S and Canada, and have gathered seeds from the best growers in hopes that someday, I too could grow a pumpkin of that size.
This summer I have a wonderful opportunity to go on a humanitarian trip to Kenya in order to help build schools for two weeks. I will volunteer 100 hours of my time through community service beforehand in order to go as part of the Youthlinc program. I also need to raise $2,200 dollars through fundraising and donations. As I thought about how to raise the funds, I looked at my hundreds of seeds and debated whether or not I could/should auction them off. These seeds have been my pride and joy. It is thrilling for me to say I have a seed that has grown a world record pumpkin. But I have decided that I am going to sacrifice part of my seed collection in order to help the school children in Kenya. I love the quote in the movie Hello Dolly that says, “Money, Pardon the expression, is like manure, it’d not worth a thing unless it’s spread around, encouraging young things to grow.” I promise to spread my enthusiasm, hard work and love to help these children grow up to a better future. Who know, maybe I will even start the Kenyan pumpkin club. Below is a list of the sets that I am willing to sacrifice to bring a better life to others. I appreciate your help.
This silent action will be held in the Seed Auctions and Raffles board and will end on December 1st 2010 at 7:00 p.m. Mountain Time. All seeds were received from the growers who grew them.
Thank you so much for your support!
