I am going to attempt to make some compost tea this year..maybe. Most of my finished compost went on the garden. I was wondering if I could use cow manure. The field next door is loaded with cow pies, some fresher than others..Could this be used in tea brewing?? Should I just buy a bag of compost from WalMart? Is there anything else that could be used in lieu of compost? I have fish meal, kelp meal, rock phosphate, organic fertilizer, molassas...my worm bed is not ready to be changed yet, but perhaps sometime in August. So any help for this grower? Thanks, Croley Bend

croley, do NOT use fresh cow manure to make compost tea, you run the risk of breeding ecoli bacteria. Again, do NOT use fresh cow manure, put it in a pile and let it heat really well and compost some before you use it in tea so it will kill the ecoli bacteria. Give it at least 2 weeks turning it every 3 days so it stays good and hot to kill the bacteria.

along with the worm casting when brewing tea id also suggest adding something to feed the organisms while its brewing. some mollasses or other organic nutrient is nnede to make the teas process effective

Seedoutlet.com has some good quality worm castings. I don't think it takes a lot of castings to brew a batch.
