I'm in the middle of my first ever batch and everything is going to plan but I may have screwed up on temperature. After adding everything I checked the water temperature and it was 94 degrees. Is this hot enough to kill the micro organisms? It's brewing outside and cooling down but do I need to add more compost once the temps get to 72 or so? Thanks in advance.

It's not really the heat killing the microbes you should worry about, it's the lack of oxygen in water caused by heat that kills them ad makes the tea go anaerobic. As long as your pump is going strong, you shouldn't need to worry. See if it smells ok just in case.

Thanks for the reply Sam, amateur mistake on my part. I think it turned out OK, the brewer was placed in one of my hoop houses and bubbled away for about 30 hrs. After that the smell was best described as fresh and earthy. Mainly a soil drench at this early stage.

Andy, one of the "pro's" (Tad) told me that if you keep the air up, and don't have a scope...the best test is yer nose!!! Sounds like you have a good product!!! Peace, Wayne
