I am building up next year's patch, ading lots of organic matter (grass clippings and leaves) and good black topsoil. I won't be able to add as much manure as usual this year as my supplier is building a pond and will be using a lot of his manure to build up the borrow areas. Would there be any advantage to adding some tea now to give the soil bacteria a jump start? Would there be any special recipe to use this time of year?

In our garden, we collect all the neighbors bagged leaves and spread them out as deep as possible. We then apply the compost tea as way to introduce additional soil fungi and bacteria to speed up the decomposition process. By the following Spring, we've increased our organic matter and have wonderful soil for growing.
There's already been some recipes posted, but they're going to be dependent on the size and design of your brewer. If you want to post what you have, I'd be happy to comment in regards to recipe inputs and amounts.
Cheers, Tad

Tad sounds like a great idea, not so much as the older growers needing the info but also for the new growers who have not been here long. Thanks for all the help you give and to the other growers who have great input. I know it takes a lot of time and effort but have you considered putting together some type of "How To" that can be posted here on bigpumpkins? You might see if anyone else has any input or might help you do it here.
