What is the best pump for a 5 gallon brewer ? Any suggestions

Ange, if you are a five gal. brewer like me, then an aquarium pump rated for 30-50 gallons will do the trick. Bigger set-ups need bigger pumps, IMO a 110 ga./min is overkill for a five gallon brewer.

I don't use any. The 1st brew I used a stone impeller and wasn't satisfied and figured I could do better. Here are three links, the last link refers to stone impellers, ignore that, the first two pics are what I use now, the 3rd is just to show what it looks like and how easy it is to get started.

BAnge, i also brew in a 5 gallon bucket, I have two 50 gallon aquarium air pumps, which I split into 4 air lines...no stones!!! Works well!!! Have read in the past, bigger bubbles are better!!! Hope this helps! Peace, Wayne
PS...I don't have a structured bubblie at the bottom of my brewer, I run 4 tubes to the bottom of the brewer, and weigh em down w/ lil rocks tied to the hoses!!! LOL

Ange, I do not run one of the air lines directly into the bag. Lot's of bubbles from the lines, keep thing stirred up fairly well. Bag is suspended, approx 1/3 deep into the brewer. Peace, Wayne

I do like the design of running a diffuser directly into the bag. It would help strip the microbes off of the soil aggregates. That being said, our 5 gal. design has the compost bag in free suspension. I think you could get away with not putting a diffuser into the bag, provided the compost is being sufficiently agitated and not just sitting in a lump (air is moving through it and rolling it around the bag).

I can put a finger on the string holding the bag to the top support, and think about big ole catfish pullin on the line....ie plenty of aggitation in the lil 5 gallon bucket!!! Sorta like talkin w/my ex...plenty of aggitation!! Peace, Wayne
