I'm wondering when I should start applying compost tea/ Any suggestions from other growers? My plants all have 5 or 6 true leaves right now and haven't yet begun to vine.

if it is made correctly compost tea can be applied even at young stage. but to be safe avoid young leaves and just apply to soil i personally prefer nothing on new vegetation others may have differing opinions

I would say to give that 1191 Barker you are growing the best treatment of C/T through out the season and the rest well you decide.....Haha
Seriously I usually dont apply any until after the plant is out about 4-6 ft out. No science behind it just kinda start then. This is from some info I have gotten from other growers. TC Kid and give me a ring soon to hear how things are and to see about swinging down your way.

You can drench the soil around it if you dont feel safe doing it foliar and start with that when they start to run.

I am going to start brewing tomorrow. It is 70 degrees here now and finally sunny. My recipe right now in the 5 gallon simplici-tea.com brewer is, 1 cup compost, 1/2 cup food source, 1 handful alfalfa. 24 hour brew... We brew all year though in Redmond!

Monster grower,
Typically we recommend a Tablespoon of alfalfa with that recipe.
Hope that helps, Tad

Tad, Good info. That will cut my alfalfa use but also unfortunately make my tea less sparkly... Thanks for all you guys do to help me out brewing during the season..

Cindy,
Make especially sure if you do put it on young plants that the tea doesn't smell bad. That means its gone anaerobic. And also don't foliar apply it in the hot afternoon sun until the plants are bigger and more hardened off. Always watch you don't spray your vine tips with anything in the afternoon sun, they can burn.
