The only thing I can find in my area is Alfalfa Cubes at T.S.C. (for horse feed). Will this be ok to use for the Alfalfa Meal portion of my compost tea? I'd assume I would have to crush it up. Unsure if it as beneficial at the Meal. Thanks.

Ask someone that works there. The TSC here has alfalfa pellets. I don't know if the cubes would be as good or better than pellets.

You would want to crush them up, but find out if there are added salts, and also if the alfalfa was grown conventionally or organically.
I picked up a bale of alfalfa at the feed store near our place and was unable to find anything under the microscope when I tried making a protozoa soup.

DCSO95, Not sure where Ostrander is located in Ohio, but there is a company that bags Alfalfa meal in Toledo Ohio called Alfa Green-Supreme http://www.alfagreensupreme.com/pages/fertilizer2.htm Awhile back I also read some positive feedback from other growers about this product. I have found it in both grain stores and local farm markets and I'm in the Northwest section of Ohio.. hope this helps

Thanks, I appreciate it. I bought the cubed alfalfa and crushed it up real fine. When I added it to the tea, I came back an hour later and it was foaming (I think thats a good thing). The smell changed slightly of the tea, but it was still a good smell. We'll see how it works. If I don't have success, Toledo, OH is only 1 h 30 min north of me :)

How much did you put in? I only use 1 T. in a 5 gallon batch (along with other ingredients).

Try to find a feed store close to you. Ashville Grain is where I get mine 740-983-2521 it's about an hour South of you. They will order you a 50 lb bag of Alfalfa Meal for $12.50 +tax. Depending on when they have a truck coming in, I ordered around 8 am on either a Monday or Tuesday and they had it that afternoon because they had a truck at their source that hadn't left yet.
Searched maps.google.com for "Feed Store near Ostrander OH". Found a Prospect Farmers Exchange in Prospect, OH 740-494-2713. They might order some for you.
Depending on how much you want, I could send you some, I have more than I'll use this season. Send me an email cntryboy764@yahoo.com. I don't know what shipping would be.
