Whenever I make compost Tea it foams over the top like mad...even if I only make a 1/2 batch...any ideas how to keep the foaming down?

I can only guess that you are adding a bit too much molasses. I use a tablespoon for a five gallon batch which may be a little on the heavy side and after 24 hrs it's foaming a little. After 36 hours the foam dissipates and the batch is ready for application. Tadd can probably give you a more accurate explanation.

From what I've seen, foaming is typically associated with earthworm castings (enzymes in the worms create foam) and also alfalfa can cause a lot of foaming. A small amount of vegetable oil or fish hydrolysate (say 1/2 t. in a 5 gallon batch) should take care of the foaming issue.
Keep in mind that foaming is not a good indicator as to the quality of your tea either.
Hope that helps!

Along the lines of the veggie oil, Pam works great in maple syrup making for foam, just a little shot takes it a way quick, might work here too.
