Hello everyone. I will be handling the VWO weigh-off for 2007. Brent Richey and a few others have provided me details on how it was run in the past. I am looking for any feedback / suggestions from all who are interested in participating in this contest.
A grower who would like to participate will be able to choose from a bunch of certified seeds specifically set aside for the VWO weigh-off. Anyone interested in wanting their seeds to be included in the “vote to grow” category can send me an email at rleonzi@sbcglobal.et or admin@pumpkinpost.com. I will need at least 100 seeds from a grower. I know many of us have not opened our pumpkins yet and do not know the seed counts, but as soon as you do, please shoot me an email if interested. I can also post seeds from previous years as well.
I will provide more details on rules / prizes / etc. in the coming weeks.
Thank you,
Ray Leonzi

A couple years ago the VWO participants voted on a group (to narrow it down) & then selected from a list of seeds to grow.
Being a stickler, I probably suggested that everyone should be growing the same seed to make it a valuable genetic effort.
Would everyone using the same seed be possible?

I thought maybe what you first suggested, participants will narrow it down from a selected list.

I too think the 935 x 898 is an awesome cross.
I will also do a squash and long gourd VWO if people want?

We do not need proven seed. I will compile a list of those who would like their seed to be grown in the VWO weighoff. Once I finalize a date on when people need to inform me by, I will post the seed list and we will all narrow the list down to possibly 5-10 seeds for people to choosse from.

lol Shannon......if you want to enter in the contest, you will choose certified seeds from PumpkinPost.com and grow that seed in 2007. You will need to post a diary on BIGP (thanks Ken) every 5 days or so, so that there is some sort of proof you are really growing it. You will then weigh the pumpkin, take picturs, etc and post all of the results on BIGP. The person with the highest weights will win. I will post an official rules doc. once I finalize seeds.

This allows all growers throughout the world to compete with each other and not have to physically be at the weighoff.

Every scale would have to meet GPC guidelines, follow GPC rules & then pay the GPC entry fee. If so I'd have to agree that the VWO might be elligable but the board would need to consider EVERY entry to make it official. Interesting concept.
