I have seen pictures from fruit this year that I assumed would have been classified as damaged but were not. Brown tip or end, looking almost like it is rotting. I have culled fruit that were wrinkled but sound and green.

Can anyone provide clarification for me?

It is my understanding that wrinkled or brown tips should be disqualified from competition.

From the GPC Rules:

7) The tip of the gourd must be firm and in good condition. Those with a tip that is rotten, shriveled or rubbery should be left at home. If such a specimen does appear at a GPC site, it may be listed as damaged (DMG).

If growers see this at weigh offs, they must say something to the judges. These are not sound LGs. If judges choose to ignore the rule, then the site needs to provide a different judge to make sure the rules are followed. The rules are there for a purpose.
