Hello,

Wondering if I were able to obtain a 2005 Haist if it is still a good seed and worth growing or is it sorta outdated and are there several better options out there? Like besides the 2517 it has only grown one 2000 pounder and made the cut by only 0.6 pounds (the 2000.6 Paton). It was a beautiful color and shape but it was the smallest pumpkin grown by the Paton brothers in 2020 not sure if it did not get as much attention as the others or if it is due to its genetic potential? I do like how it sometimes pumps out absolutely gorgeous perfect shaped pumpkins like the 2000.6, 1939.5, 1617, etc but I have also noticed that it has produced several cream colored pumpkins and a few mixed color ones. If I can plant only one plant would it not be wise to plant the 2005 and just hope that it is one of the great shape and great colors ones. Is the 1747.5 Handy a better seed than the 2005 for bigger heavier pumpkins?

They are both good seeds Im sure. Prior to the 2350, that was about as much orange as you could expect from full size genetics. There really were no 2k pumpkins that were guaranteed orange. Even the 2112 Skinner is not guaranteed orange.
I grew the 2005 Haist... the plant started small but the genetics were good and it grew a heavy, light orange pumpkin. The Handy seed might have the edge on % heavy, but neither is likely to go light to chart. Overthinking here maybe. When has overthinking achieved anything lol.

It is still a great seed , but it doesn't seem to be a good pollinator.

I still have one and going to give it a try this year. I saw it in person at Altoona and it was a rock. Not close to orange which is fine with me. I remember the stem diameter was super large. It was the first (and only) 2000lber I have seen.

Do you think the 1875 Mendi, 2114 Wallace, 1953 Daletas, 1806 Sperry, 1937 Urena, or 2051 is a better polinator while still maintaining at least some orange.

2051 is a personal best. I think PB's are special seeds. 1806 had some killer orange in it but it all comes down to luck. I dont think more than 1/8 or 1/4 of any of these would be really orange, but yes they do have hidden orange genetics. The cream/opaque genes do a good job of interfering with the pure orange genes.

2624 line seems to be a good pollinator.So I like 2114 and 1953 as pollinators.
