Have a plant with a flat vine. What's the prognosis? Any problems with having flat vines?

So, I did some reading and decided to yank the flat vine and replace it with a backup. Of my 4 backups, I've used 2. One to replace a cold sensitive plant and now one to replace a flat vine. For me, this certainly confirms the need to plant backup assuming you'll need to replace all your plants. It also, makes me think that the seed auction should require the sale of at least 2 seeds in a pack. That seems like a win win to me.

Can you post a picture of your flat vine? I've had plants start pretty funky before sorting it out--I'm curious to see how clear it was you had a ribbon vine.

Three seeds per pack, if the grower can part with that many. Its only the postman who wins when the one seed that cost $5 to ship doesn't sprout!

As for double/flat vines, look into the tip and see if its going to sort itself out or get worse. You can see a few weeks of future growth when you examine the tip closely.

Actually, too, this is how backup/unproven seeds get proven in some cases; That seed(s) may also now get the attention a proven seed would have, if the pressure is now 'on' it. I also (lol) meant there was the unmentioned 'double' vine as well, wherein one of the two that're side by side is carefully removed and the other is 'gone with'. eg

Dibble, I didn't say a pack of 2 had to be auctioned for the same price. I just prefer one stop shopping. :) Often there's not two lots to bid on for the "flavor of the year" seeds.

It makes sense to at least support the clubs where you intend to compete as well as those that just have the seeds you want.

Flatvines can be pruned into functional productive plants. The main drawback is that the pruning costs valuable time. So the tradeoff is a later pollination or smaller plant at pollination.
