Do I need to worry about burying my main vine before the secondary vines have reached a length that keeps the tip out of the dirt?

Or, do I just bury as soon as possible and let the secondaries emerge? I worry about the tips getting rotten if they are in contact with dirt. So, I've been waiting for the secondaries to get a few inches long. Am I doing it right?

Keep the tip so that light hits it.That helps it develop.You can pack a little moist dirt on the backside from the secondary to help get the bottom root going. Then go back and put dirt on the top of the vine when the secondary is sticky out say three inches. This time of year that may be next day or up to three days later.The tip wont rot if you cover it but it grows out away from the mains leaf to get full sun.
