I have a very large healthy plant with one pollinated pumpkin on the main vine. The pumpkin took but is growing very slow and the plant is still growing gangbusters, any suggestions as to move the plants energy to the pumpkin? I have not terminated any of the vines.

How many DAP are we talking with the pumpkin? It takes a while for them to really kick into high gear (after 14 days).

DAP is 10 days, I’m just judging it by the other pumpkin sets that were on the other plants that are DAP 11 & 14 and are considerably bigger. This is a much bigger plant then the others so I thought the pumpkin would grow faster.

You want to prune the vines Typicle vines are deadheaded at 15 feet or less to encourage fruit growth. Use lower Nitrogen if the plant doesn't need it and use more potassium

My fruit just sat there for what seemed like a week. Its growth curve was behind nearly every pumpkin I've grown previously. I reached out for advice and it was recommended I do nothing.
Its catching up.... it has potential to be a personal best for me.
Some just start slower than others.

I had two on the same plant that had deep longitudinal grooves and looked kind of shriveled but they were hard and not rotting. After about 2 weeks of waiting for some growth. I culled and cut it open and it was dry and had voids inside. The backup came in looking the same initially but had some growth yet still the deep longitudinal grooves and dried up looking. I pollinated another backup on July 4th. Today I culled backup number 1 because one side was deformed. I cut it open and on that side there was a void. The final backup looks nice, not grooves and is growing good. No more backups so I hope it's a winner.

You might consider terminating a few of the longest secondaries. Then slowly doing more as they grow out later on so you start the process of funneling the energy to the fruit but not shock the plant too much.

I am always puzzled by the diary photos I see with a basketball sized pumpkin on day 10. Mine never start out like that. I don't know that a quick start matters as much as being able to get those peak gains to maintain as long as possible. My personal best was one of my smaller young pumpkins ever. It was at 12.5" circumference on day 10 and ended up at 1223 pounds.
