So, if the purpose of a stump cover is to keep the stump dry to perhaps offset the risk of excessive moisture thus excessive turgor pressure that may cause a blow out AKA foaming stump - how much area should be covered. Most I've seen (YouTube) seem to small to do much good, e.g. Bubba's geriatric toilet chair, plastic furniture tables and so on. If the goal is to only keep the stump dry any of those might work, but wouldn't you want to keep a little larger area dry, i.e. maybe 3'x 3'. After all, isn't it the soil around the stump you're trying to keep dry?

We never cover the stumps, but have also never had issues with foamers. I don’t think it’s a general practice amongst growers, just one of those things some growers do and some don’t.

My clear plastic stump cover is only 12 inches x 12 inches, and its set on four 12 inch tall stakes.

I haven't heard of using stump covers to prevent foamers, they are used to keep the stump dry to prevent rotting. A 2x2 storm window (or near that size) works

Hmmm! I guess I missed the boat one the purpose. Is there anything wrong with the stump being in full sun after some of the older leave die off?

I'll echo NSB above, and I may actually bury one just for fun and see the consequence(s) - a small plant now, with only leaves and a main sticking out, lol---eg
