Hello from germany

This year i have two pumpkins growing on 1 plant.
After i have some problems with the gardenmanagement and have much work to do ect. I decided to let two pumpkins grow.
Its like 200 squarefoot plant and i hope in the end i will have two pumpkins with 500+ lbs.

Back in like 2012 i heard from the old timers that there even was somebody that was growing four pumpkins growing on one gigantiv plant and in the end had more than 2000 lbs in total.

So two pumpkins should be fine for me no?

Any opinions?

Sometimes they will abort one in favor of the other, but other times it can work. A long time ago I let seven grow on one plant the largest was 462 lbs, the total of all seven was 1500 lbs.

200 square foot is on the small side. You certainly can grow 2 fruit on a plant that size, but if you hope to have something that hits 500 pounds, I would just grow one.

I have done it many times, it is a conservative measure to increase your odds of bringing one to the scales. I will often let the plant grow more than one if I miss the ideal pollination window and I am looking to sell a few in the fall to help reocoup some of my costs. Andy Wolf has grown many 1,000 pound plus pumpkins when allowing more than one pumpkin per plant.

I just saw your remark that your plant is only 200 square feet. I agree that will limit the pumpkin's sizes more than anything. You might get two pumpkins maybe 150-250 pounds would be my guess. Or you could grow one and get a pumpkin to 500 plus.

I spent many years growing in small areas. I have never grown 2 on one plant but my main patch was only a hair over 200 SF and over the years I grew 4 pumpkins over 750 Pounds on it including my personal best at 1223 pounds. I also grew an 814.5 pound pumpkin in 150 SF. It will be difficult but I think you could get two 500 pounders if you have a good seed and good growing technique.

Hi Captain97

Thx a lot. So with 250 squarefeet i should get 1000 lbs easy in the future.
My pb is 789 lbs back from 2010.. i didn´t grow pumpkins till 2017 and since 2017 i did some mistakes with mulch and bad water.
This year the plant looks great.
