Its with much regret that ive been forced to cut my fp early (235.5) OTT due to a tiny crack which has now developed at the blossum end.(pictures on my diary). As far as I can tell its not penetrated the cavity, well I know its not penetrated but I want to get an un biased opinion when I weigh her. Sadly she won't be going to a GPC weigh off as I just want to get her weighed while she's still solid and before she starts dehydrating and losing weight so she will be weighed at the malvern giant veg show tomorrow. Assuming there are seeds closest guess will get some.
All the best to everyone at their weigh offs.
Mark.

288 I think on Saturday you should go to a gpc weigh-in, a world record needs that.

Ruben, yes your right and I can see how some people are going to frown on me for not taking it to a GPC weigh in especially since the GPC are currently the only organisation recognising fp's. Its not a decision I'm taking lightly. What would you do? Leave it on the vine to open up and become a terminal BES, or try holding on to it for 10 days until our first GPC in the Uk while it loses weight. I did that with a marrow in 2018 that would have been a WR at the time and it didn't end well for me. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to travel to a GPC this Saturday there isn't one in our country and I'm also getting married on Saturday so that's not possible. John Mackinnon actually mailed me this afternoon wishing me well for tomorrow and told me that I was lucky as it looked like I got there just in time and saying it looked like it was just the skin. It is what it is

275...Could you weigh it tomorrow and not enter it so you can get the peak weight you want. Then if it's still sound later when you go to GPC event, enter it to get the GPC record that it should get at that size? Might be a little confusing with one fruit having two different weights but it would get the recognition it deserves that way.

Floral companies have the ultimate setups for preserving fresh stuff, (well, flowers not pumpkins). I think they run low temp, high humidity coolers, to give incredibly long life to cut flowers. Just an idea, but hey, maybe you can work in a deal for some wedding flowers too.

Can your best man bring it to weigh off? Or another grower? I'm gonna guess parent weight 235.5

Mark, leaving it at the plant is risky, you're right. But if you weigh it in a weigH off, then it is not suitable to take it to a gpc weigh off. You have a very difficult decision, a lot. The first weigh off of the United Kingdom I think is 9 days from now. I don't know how much a field pumpkin can lose these days, and if it endured the split, the decision is only yours from anyone else, we can only give our opinion.

Maybe I don´t understand what the actual problem is (the one with the decision as to which weigh-off to attend with that fruit).
- Would it count as a WR (if sound and WR weight) when not weighed at a GPC sanctioned event? The answer should be YES, because there is no reasonable reason for officially certifying WRs to all sorts of vegetables but excluding the GPC categories (which then must be weight at GPC sanctioned weigh-offs). Hence, in case of aiming at maximum WR weight, the choice should fall on the earliest weigh-off.
- Would it count as a GPC sanctioned weight if weighed according to GPC rules under supervision of official GPC representants? If the answer is NO, then we probably need to find out about the fundamental differences between FPs and tomatos (just throwing the key word "early tomato" into play). This FP, which is at risk of rotting soon (even though sound at the time of harvest) is in a similar tricky situation as all the heaps of tomatos which are crying for an early weight (which, in their case, is GPC accepted even in absence of a GPC representative).

...that´s just my opinion. Would certainly be better if some friendly GPC representatives from the UK would chime in and could offer help/suggestions in this probably tricky situation.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Iwan was the closest guess so will get some seeds (assuming there are some) I can't make promises to fulfill any more seed requests at this time until ive cut her and the other one open. Currently I have stacks of 190 seeds from last year but I'm practically right out of the 168.7 seeds, there were over 400 originally but I didn't see the significance of them at the time and they practically all got given away. Quite a few went to the egvga for members so there should be a few lurking about in Europe? Fortunately i did a reverse cross with the two 168.7's I grew this year, the smaller one was 206.5 inches OTT yesterday and I'm hoping she'll remain sound for a GPC weigh off, so exciting potential in those. Thanks for all your kind words. I'm not going to grow them again Brad!!!
