I never much cared with my own plants and generally broke off kickstand leaf or bent it out of the way. However I'm helping out a new grower and was looking for opinions. My way worked for me...just curious.

If I feel like I need the extra energy before I cut it, I simply dig a few inch trench for the kickstand stalk so it can lay flat along with the rest of the main vine.
But, my priority is always to get the main to lie down.

I’ve had too many main vines bend and crease over the years due to the dreaded kickstand. I agree with Luke, every leaf counts especially early on but one wind blown kickstand leaf can do a lot of damage. Cut it!!

I like that idea, dig it in/tuck it in the dirt, and use it as the first anchor point. Ive done this before. I guess in nature these plants would prefer to climb rather than be prostrate.

I keep them. You have to support the cobra vine after the kickstand till its ready to come down. helps to dig a pit for the leaf base(like luke mentioned) and let it down over two days(warm days). If you use two parallel bamboo stakes to hold the cobra where it wants to come down to from its own weight its a simple process. The vine doesnt lay strait down it rolls away from the kickstand side.also my plants are in a cloche so wind is controlled.I just lowered a two foot cobra easily. Never pull it down let its own weight work for you.
