I've read that people can grow 200lb+ pumpkins on 150 square foot sites. I'm interested in trying. Does this generally require a seed that's specially bred to thrive under that constraint, or would any quality seed from a giant work?

Hi Andrej. I think the record is 1448 lbs for a 150 sq ft plant. Pretty nuts what these plants can do. Check out the link below, then look on pumpkin fanatic to see the lineage of the seeds you’re interested in. You’ll get an idea of what’s working.

I don't think there's any clear differences yet in the lineages that do well in 150 ft. vs any standard lineage. We grew 700 lbs on a Holland seed. I'm sure most seeds will give 500-800 lbs.

I know about not, but see logic in, growing any seed that has grown the biggest/heaviest that CAN be grown in ANY square footage; Maybe a pumpkin that covers 150 SF in itself would be a concern, but hey, that'll be the elephant in the room...then! Ha ha eg

I grew one to 188lbs in less than 50 square feet of space last year. I only meant to use the plant as a pollinator but ended up letting a pumpkin set for the heck of it. It's amazing how much energy these giants have.

I met someone last fall who grew a 900 pound pumpkin in 96 square feet.

I grew 441 lbs in 64 square feet.

I don't think seed selection is a factor in growing in tight spaces but what do I know LOL
