I have been hesitant to grow selfed seeds because I vaguely recall reading a long time ago that they can have more issues than normal crosses with more variability.
Anyone find this true... with double vines, sterile plants, ribbon vines, stunted growth etc?
Or, is there any correlation of a higher percentage of issues when plants are selfed?
Thanks in advance for any input.

Theres been a couple selfed seeds recently that showed small leaves with short internode distance. It was interesting because one of the seeds was from a pumpkin grown on a big leafed plant. My advice on selfed seeds would be to let somebody else prove them. Many selfed crosses are good.

I used to be prejudiced against them, but the 1725 Harp changed my opinion about them. I don't really worry much about them any more.

Matt D says they need to be selfed 9 times in order for problems to arise so 1 or 2 generations of selfing definitely won't cause an issue (Don't quote me on this, I am only 90% sure). Just look at the 2319 Stoekel. It was selfed and produced the 2460 Olsen.

I've grown a lot of plants, and a fair number of selfed seeds. I haven't noticed a significantly worse proportion of problems as compared to non-selfed seeds.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback. I only grow 1-2 plants when I have a garden, so covering my bases.
