when do you start the giant watermelon seeds?

I usually start some april 1, some years i have started them close to may for a second batch.

Jay, don't start them too soon. They get potbound just like pumpkins. I usally start mine around the 15th. They go in the garden by the 2nd week in May under a greenhouse. I start them in big pots inside.

do you folks use peat pots or just good size plastic?

I don't like peat pots.I just use big plastic containers that are thin enough to cut apart when it comes time to transplant.Like a large ice cream container.

Don't use peat pots. I use big plastic pots that I get from garden centers.
