The weather and temperature seems to be holding nice, so I made the decision to transplant from the house to the garden.

As of Saturday they are officially in the ground. I transplanted 10 plants, each around 2.5 to 3.5 feet in vine length. Some even had male flowers.

They are in the garden, and nicely covered in Remay blankets.

This is the largest number of plants I have ever put in, which I have found increases the work load significantly.

mines in today also melon man.. a little leggy. only a foot in length...under hoophose.. gave a nice shot of mollasses, fish, kelp, symbex 4..also have black plastic on da ground warming soil.. thanks a bunch melon man, scott from pa.

MMM, how do you get them that big, b-4 transplant...with out root restriction, I got a couple little sprouts, in 1 gal. pots...and am afraid they might have suffered already, from roots too long for the pots. Thanks for any info. Peace, Wayne

followthe melon mans procedure wayne. transplant into 12"smooth walled drain pipe.. i had no problem with root bound..started seeds 4 weeks ago

Scottie is right. I use 9" drain tile stood on end 1' tall. They are cut on both sides, drilled and zip tied together. Slide hand underneath, since they are open ended. Place in hole. Cut the zip ties to remove the drain tile, and close in the soil. Plants never stopped growing.

Mine are going in tomorrow or saturday. Vines about 2' now with lots of small side vines.

James, I noticed that on your 225 that the vine has split lengthways just after the cot leaves. Both our 225's are doing this. The split is only 2" in length. Have you experienced anything like this with your 225's?

Jane's plants have been in the ground for more than a week now & are @ 2-2.5'+ in length. Small secondary vines are starting to grow off them as well. Good luck all, I hope you all grow new PB.

Interesting Phil, I have many 225, and I have not noticed any splits. My plants have been in the garden for a week now, and they are close to 4' long, and I have already passed on some female flowers. Seems to early to pollinate.

Thanks James. Jane noticed a female on one of her melon plants also. It won't be kept as it's way to early. We like to have a much larger plant before we start pollinations. Take care & good luck.
