I notice on a lot of the seed pks of lrg melons, that I have received from others, that they do not do controlled pollinations, like with AG's...is this cause the flowers are so small?? Peace, Wayne

Yeah they can be a little difficult. They need to be pollinated a little later in the day 10-12 am. I know a few of us are crossing them this year so there will be more that is not open poll. next year.I am also crossing my giant cantaloupe this year with other giant cantaloupe to get a super cross. The only way to get bigger is by crossing them.

I think its easier as the bright yellow pollen shows up on the off yellow females. The problem is its just a lot smaller than we are used to with AGP.

The problem I have is with availability of good males when the females are ready. I will definitely hand pollinate all the females, otherwise you get misshapen fruit. But sometimes I am forced to use multiple males from different plants. When possible I try to record the lineage.
