I tried to start some. They germinated, but they look nothing like a pumpkin plant. They are these 6 inch tall long skinny baldes of grass with a small leaf at the top and the seed stuck on it.

What the? They should have 2 seed cots that are dark green and smaller than pumpkin ones are. The leaves have a tri shape to them , not round. Other then that they are about 3 times smaller then my AGs are when I plant them outside. Show photo please. Look up other watermelon on site and look at diaries.I have several photos of my plants.

I'm telling you it was a watermelon seed, one of Marty's. I just can't figure this out. I had some cantalope seeds do the same darn thing. Funny though, the "cantanlpoe grass" smelled just like a cantalpoe would. I guess if it's not to late I will plant another and try again. I will post a pic tommorrow.

sounds like they didn't have enough light fast enough and the stretched out way too much. Watermelons seem to do that...

That's my thought also, not enough sun so they are spindly. I use full spectrum fluorescents and that keeps them from growing spindly and it keeps them a nice dark green color.

Just to follow up, I did not give the plants enough light after sprouting as stated in the last two posts. I tried again with non-compeition seed and did fine with the ones with light and got the same "blades of grass" with the not enough light control ones.

Thanks for everyones help. I will have to get more seeds from Marty next year and try again as I am sure its too late for this year.
