Hows everybody's plants doing? Its been kinda quite on here. I quess everybody's workin in the patch.

They are secretively tucked in under the Remay blankets looking like large caterpillars in the garden. I just keep watering them and hope for the best.

Could get some rain today, which will make my life easier, and my yard less crunchy.

My plants are in the ground and we've had good rain since, so I only had to water them once. I reckon they are just sittin there until the warmer weather comes. The look great! Thanks for asking. Croley

Yeah this rain is a real blessing. We have already had nearly as much rain this year as we did all of last year in that drought. Good luck everybody.

My plants have not grown much in the past month. My AG are growing a 4-6" a day but my watermelons are not doing anything. I keep hopeing that they will take off, but I dont know what is normal in watermelon plants.

Mine seem slow too. I guess it really needs to be warm for them. Only had about 1 week of really "summer" weather. That looks like its helping.

I started mine very late I'm trying to squeeze in the barest 110 day season.The seedling I have is sending out two leaves directly after the cotyledons , I don't think this is right , is it?

They just need a little sun all the rainy weather and mild temps have them a little slow but they'll take back off.

Hello everyone.This is my first posting.I haven't tried growing a giant watermelon in many years.I did have a few over 100 lbs. back then.That was a lot of fun so now I am trying again.We had very unusually cool weather in early & mid spring and I started my seed a bit late.There are tall trees on either side of my lot and I don't get as much sun as I need to raise a really big one.I got tired of watching my plant sit in the cold ground and grow only very slowly so I put a 400 watt metal halide light over it at night and that really kicked it into gear.The plant is now (June 11) about 6' across and I have picked off the first two female blooms.

Probably the hardest year so far for growing watermelon. The spring was cold and wet and now it is very wet but warming up. We are lucky to go 2 days with out an inch of rain. The fair plants are doing ok but had warming cables in the ground but they are not producing females very fast. I have one set on the 255 Mitchell plant but not a good shape but need it for the fair. I may set another one on the plant later.

I am new to both pumpkins and watermelons. I live in southern Arizona and the watermelon vine loves the 110 temps. Is this normal? I never see wilt, its so vibrant and green and the other day I found my first melon, camo and under cover. Hes probably about 5 pounds, I cant believe he was there, and i never noticed, anyway....what do the vines like to eat, Im giving steer manure compost currently every few weeks...just looking for advice....thanks in advance!!

Punisher, With those type temps watermelons are much more suited for hot weather than pumpkins. As long as they don't run short of water the melons tolerate heat well. If your growing the fruit now give it some fertilizer that is high in phospherus. Good luck
