I have been using a foliar spray of diluted fish emulsion and a 20-20-20 liquid fertilizer.I wonder what other growers are using? This seems to work well for me but I am always looking for something better.I am just getting ready to set a few melons to compete for the honor of becoming the chosen one.

I have come to the conclusion that I will never use a fish emulsion or anything that smells like fish. I have seen too many people have problems with animals attracted to the odor. I use a miracle grow standard for plant growing, then I switch to a 5-50-17 for fruit growing. I also make a tea out of rabbit manure and side dress with that.

Hey melon man,
Great info!
Where do you get your 5-50-17 fertilizer?
I'm out here in Zone (9).

Which of course now seems to be gone. I will look around and see if there is a replacement site.

Wow! I can't find a good replacement site. It's listed on a pot growing site (weed-bay), and a reference to Peters 5-50-17, but you have to find it in the store. I may have to cling to the 25 pound bag I have remaining.

There are some other foliar feeds out there that have similar numbers, that show up in feed stores from time to time. I've seen feritlome in alot of stores. It is 9-59-8 And I think miracle grow has a high phosphorus feed to, but it's more like 30%.

Holloway,

I recently contacted Fertilome (loliver@fertilome.com) and was told via email: "...We do not ship to CA. We do not have any State registrations for CA..."
