The length of my melon has been increasing at what I think is a good pace - about an inch a day. The diameter has been doing ok also and is now a bit over 8 inches.This melon was polinated about the middle of June;I did not record the exact day. I know any fruit grows until it is fully mature.

What I am wondering is how long can I expect it to keep up it's current pace of about an inch a day and will it keep getting longer all the way until it is fuly mature or will it reach nearly all of it's eventual length in the next several days or perhaps 2 or 3 weeks and then put on most of it's increase in size by adding to it's diameter?

Sorry I posted this one.I'm sure there are so many variables in predicting this that there is no certain answer.I think the melon will grow in all ways until it is fully mature but at an ever decreasing rate in length and diameter as it will have to add many more pounds to make gains in those ares as it gets bigger. Happy fourth of July everyone.My little melon was 21" long this moring - still gaining an inch a day!

If you want, you can look at my diary from last year, I kept my 168.5 pounder in my diary. you can compare. They seem to gain 2-5 pounds a day till almost done at 70-82 days. Like pumpkins they grow fast and slow down the last 10 days. Be sure to water during the day time around stump, like 12 noon with 5 gal. of water to keep the melon from getting hollow heart.

Go to growers diaries,Click on year and hit 2007. All the years are there to check on great stuff and always can check back on where you are year to year.
