Chris, I just saw that the Allardt web site is listing your 259.2 as a new Tennessee state record. I thought Bill Carson had that record at 262 pounds. So I did a Google & went to the National Watermelon Promotion Board and found this:"In 1990, Bill Carson of Arrington, TN grew the largest watermelon at 262 pounds that is still on the record books (1998 ed. Guinness Book of World Records)".

Please tell me if this is wrong. I hope you have set a new state record but I am unsure.

Perhaps Bill Carson was living in another state when he set the World record.

Yes Dennis, Bill Carson has the state record at 262. The Allardt web site is incorrect. But it did sound good !!

I'm sorry about that Chris. I wish you had set a new state record. Anyway, if you had set one all that would be left for you would be the world record. So looking on the bright side you still have at least 2 big goals to shoot for in the world of giant watermelon growing.

Chris, I just noticed you took 2 watermelons to Allardt & that Janet took 2nd place. Way to go Janet! Sometimes people need a taste of the medicine they dish out.

Dennis, i never expected to do as well as i did this year ! Probally wont break 200 next year. The hard part is going to be what to grow. I have all theses great seeds & have found even more with great potential.

Chris, How many did you get over 200 this year? It was good talking to you the other night. I have some seeds ready for you and look forward to hearing from you soon. You should have some interesting crosses this year.

Chris, you are certainly right.Too many good seed & too few hills to grow them in.Seems like you could get a 200 pounder by throwing seed out in your back yard though. You seem to really have the right touch for growing them big.Next year is going to be VERY interesting.Lets bring the world record back where it belongs - in Tennessee.

Sparkey, i had 4 over 200, but sold one so i don't have seeds from my 239, but it was the same cross as my 209.

Dennis, Stop that, you will jinx me ! LOL I now have boars running around my neiborhood. Never a dull moment here !!

I had the pleasure of meeting Chris at the KGPG weighoff at Bear Wallow Farm in Nancy, Kentucky!!! I had already heard stories of him that I will never forget!!! Pulls up, gets out and looks around at the other melons...then asks "can a couple you guys give me a hand"? Walks over to his lil Honda type o car...opens it up and he and his helpers pull 239#'s o melon outta da trunk!!!!!!! Way Kul!!! LOL Peace, Wayne
PS...please don't kill me if a fact or two are incorrect, but that's the story I was told!!!!!
