Ice Man

This was my first year growing a large melon and had a ball all summer watchhing it grow. Today I picked the melon and unofficially weighed it at the barn @ 136 lbs. I was very please with the melon being my first year and only having 1 vine. Now I have 2 questions, the first is should I take it the the fair, I know I won't win anything and it will look like a GRAPE next to Henry's 262, but I think it will be fun just going and meeting some people.
Next is, after doing nearly everything wrong, from what I've learn here I'm pretty sure the melom could have been much larger, so do I look to find some better seed quality or should I only plant the seeds from this years melon. In a perfect world I would love to plant both next year and try cross them to get the best results. I just don't know where to find quality seeds. And if anyone wants some CC seeds from a 136 send me a e-mail @ iceoccasions@bellsouth.net and when there ready I'll send some off. Looking forward to next year and thanks to everybody that has helped me this year. Later Todd

Todd, by all means take it to the fair. I'm sure it'll be fun no matter if you win something or not. At the Tennessee Valley fair here in Knoxville the man in charge always gives me free gate and parking passes when I ask & so perhaps it wouldn't hurt to inquire about those at your fair. Go and have fun & take a few pictures and rub elbows with some of the other growers if you get a chance. It'll be good practice for next year when you may be the winner. The most fun part of growing giant vegetables can be their exhibition. It's a time to feel very proud of what you have accomplished.
