What would be good seeds to get for someone new to raising watermelons?
I have a large backyard and I want to grow a couple watermelon and pumpkin plants.

I grew one called Mountain Hoosier this year that is a wonderful watermelon. The plant is very productive & produces very large melons & the taste is excellent.

Do you want size or taste? Are you looking for something easy to grow?

I would like to grow one over 100#. If there is one that will reach this and be relatively easy to grow that would be good. But anything with good size is fine.

A few different watermelons will grow over 100 pounds with the proper care. Only Carolina Cross will grow over 200 pounds and it has the added benefit of being a good eater if picked at the proper stage of maturity. Seeds are available from many of the growers on this forum for the cost of a SASBE. We all grow Carolina Cross.

Bt the way, it isn't easy to get a melon over 100 pounds unless you are dedicated and know what you are doing. You can learn a lot if you'll go back on this forum and do a lot of reading.

There are a few varieties that will get to the 100# mark. Carolina Cross, Cobb's Gem, Mountain Hoosier, and Blue Rind. If your new to it and want to grow a 100+ I would go with the Carolina Cross. None of these varieties are as easy to grow as a crimson sweet, but the Cc's are the easiest to get to that weight. They also have a good taste for their size. If you want some seeds send me an e-mail at inrock30108@aol.com. I'll give you some tips to help you get started too.
