Does anyone have any seeds to give to me. I'd like to try growing a 60 pound mellon. When is the best time to plant the seeds.

I have some Carolina Cross seeds that I'll send you. One seed is from a 90 pound melon and the other is from a 135 pound melon. Just send me a bubble pack and I'll be more than happy to send them to you if your interested. I'm not sure on planting time for your location, just plant after the last frost. I'm sure some more experienced growers here can give you better help on growing tips.

Just send the bubble to me at:

Start indoors about a month before the last average freeze if you have growlights you can use. These are VERY long season melons so the earlier start you get the better. Just know watermelons are difficult to transplant so you have be very careful not to disturb the roots much when you set them out.

I actually start mine two months before the last frost, usually around mid-march.

I use a large container with an open bottom such as a 12" chunk of 9" drain tile stood on end, but I have seen people use ice cream buckets with the bottom cut out and the lid snapped on. Use them upside down. I will probably switch to this method myself.

The ice cream bucket has the advantage that it slides right off the plant when transplanting.
