Definately go with the 182, LOL. Do you know the year on the 148 Bowers? I have a pack from Ron marked 148 - 1999 and says "short fat melon" on it too. My list is not yet finalized but will definately do the first five and will have to pick four or five from the others listed and others I've yet to think hard about. I have been blessed with seeds from several growers on here and I thank you all very much for you helping me get back growing again and look forward to future seed swaps...

239 Leonard and 197 Leonard are both up and running. Only have room for one unfortunately as they have to grow in a greenhouse in my climate. Hope to use the 197 as the main plant and the 239 as the pollinator.

Due to my own economical situation, I will reduce my intended number of melon plants this year. I have room for five big plants, 28' X 30' for each. I will go with mostly proven seeds this year and one of my own. A back up will be started for each spot also, along with a few extras incase of poor germination. I'm going to build a germination box soon and plan to start seeds around May 10. As of now my line up is:
* FIRST CHOICES * * BACK UPS *
217 Pleasant '96 267 Pleasant '09
239 Leonard '08 259.2 Kent '09
255 Mitchell '07 168 Johnson '99
267 Edwards '08 230 Edwards '09
182 Blanton '03 219 Edwards '01
178.5 Mudd '04

Hummm, that didn't work as planned. Anyway, the Mudd and Elkins are back ups also.

I've got too many to list but have some definates in mind. My goal was to cut it down to six this year. 12 last year was to many only had about three good ones. It may never happen though. My top picks are the 255 Mitchell and the 209 Kent.

Thanks the 255 is proven. I think the 209 is a good cross. You get large plants from both parents. The 251's have the girth and the 255's have both. Not to mention the 209 went down early it probably had alot of potential.
