Moss Hill Melon Man

Trinity River Bottom

got a question . i know i'm not on a world record growth rate, but i have been trying to keep good records on growth of my melons. will they at some time put on a growth spurt or will they just keep plodding along steady? the growth rate on mine is 2.63 lbs per day from day one .i'm at 41 days. should they pick up . or not? from week to week there has not been much change.

thanks

The fastest growth seems to be in the 10-20 day range. They slowly slow down from there. Thats based on just 1 year, i'll know better after this year. They will grow up into the 70's days if healthy.

Chris is right they grow the fastest between day 10-20. I think 14-20 esspecially. Or at least that has been my experience for the past three years. They gradually slow down over the coarse of the season. Beyond 80 days last year I was only getting 1 or 2 lbs a day. These are averages fertilzer water and esspecially sun can make it vary sometimes. The key is to try to keep the current growth rate as long as possible. Wish I could keep mine in that 4-4.5 range as long as Chris Does.
