I taped several melons today and was wondering what is good. Examples of the largest few that are 22 days old. These were pollinated on June 22.
OTT 97-33lbs
OTT-99-34.9 lbs
OTT-101-37lbs
I have several others that were pollinated a 1 week and two weeks later. Most in the OTT upper 70's. I have no idea how to gauge them. Just wanted to get an idea of where I am at. Also does anyone have any ideas about what to do when the stem end seems to be deteriorating some. I remember someone had a remedy using Captan but I can't remember what was said. Here's a few that I have taped that are close to 22 days.
88 Dawson day 19 64lbs. 30 38.25 57.75
203 Boyette day 22 67lbs 31 39.5 57.75 128.25
225 Bright day 22 70lbs 29.75 40.25 60.25 130.25ott

The bright and the boyette started out strong but have since slowed way down,however they were my early plants and I can tell a big diference in the later ones.

OK. I know there not that bad. I hope I messed up my measurements. For example, the one I have as 33 lbs OTT-97. I added 36 inches which was from the ground over the top to the other side, then 26 inches which was the girth, then 35 inches which was the length around one side of the melon from stem to end for a total of 97. 36x26x35=97 Is this correct or should or should I have added the total length around the side for the last component. I thought something must have been wrong because the melons look a lot larger that 50-60 lbs let alone 30 something. Thanks and someone please let me know.

Is it the leaves or the stump? I had some stump problems. Doug helped me out with some ideas. It worked really well.

Take circumference around melon long ways, ground to ground longways, ground to ground over sides

EE is from stem side to blossom end, not follow the melon but straight down
ss is like girth but not under the melon, from the ground straight up and over,and back to the down ground..this is taken where you would measure girth
cc is from stem end all the way to the blossom end back to the stem

Sounds like your numbers are off, you may be a happy camper tommorrow!

What a relief. I had to get them right so here the updated on those three. Those three done right below:
OTT-36x26x71=133=74.4lbs(Kent 259.2 Female X 243.5 Male)22days
OTT-36x28x74=138=81.9lbs( Kent 259 self)22days
OTT-36x30x74=140=85.1lbs(239 Leonard Self) 22days

Way to go Ice Man!!! You just put a spark in Sparkey!!! LOL Looks like his circ #'s were off,(measuring only 1/2 of circ)!! and you just doubled the weight of his melons!!! LOL Peace, Wayne

PPS...on this site, there is a video tutorial available about how to measure for OTT! It was done on a pkn...go figure, but the rules, I would think are the same!!! Hope this helps!!! Peace, Wayne

Chris and I talked. He showed me the ere of my ways.I messed up the circumference. He walked me through them on the phone. Not world record pace but pretty good for 22days. We'll see. Thanks again guys.
