Has anyone used them under the melons? My thoughts are that 4" hollow blocks could be covered with some sand under the melon and more blocks could be added as needed, similar to the wood block discussion in earlier posts but this would give a solid bottom for the melon to grow on, don't know if that would be better or worse. I think the blocks would keep mice from building nests right under the melon and they would wick away any excess moisture. Any thoughts?

Wow, you got me. Used short chunks of 2x4s are easy to get, easy to throw away, and don't destroy my back when I carry them. I also have 6 years of proving to myself that they work great, so I think I will stick to them.

I do like that people keep trying to build a better mouse trap.

To me that sounds like a very good idea to try out.I used bricks to support my vines coming out of the hills until they reached the plastic and my stumps & vines are all solid.

That would work as long as there is sand on them for a cusion. Keeping the melons dry is the key since they sweat. If it rains on them, the blocks would not hold the water.

Btw, those are the best peaches i have ever had. You should put them in those flat rate overnite boxes & send them all over the country !

I think I'll try it with the cantaloupes. They have a tendency to go down quick.
