After my time away from the garden, I have spent quite a bit of time looking for culls. I have carried buckets and buckets of them up to feed Kenny (my pig).

I just posted a picture of one that I must have missed quite a few times.

lol, again,just saw the pic ,thats how big the two was I just found-these melons are good at hide and go seek.

Yes, a melon of that size can slow down another melon. I think that a vine senses when one fruit has viable seeds and starts concentrating on another fruit instead. This bothers me, since I found it on a vine supporting one of my best melons.

On the plus side, I think this one might be edible. I will measure it tonight and then cut it open, but on first guess I would say it weighs around 50 pounds.

Thats the downside of good looking plants...its hard to see the culls. I still find 10-20 lbs everywhere. Didn't have that problem last year as my plants were half dead.
The best prize for hiding goes to one that had gotten under the bird netting i have on the ground on 1 plant. it was about 30 lbs and was raising up a large area so it was hard to see till i was looking one days and thought... "why is that area getting taller???? "

Damn things are camouflaged. It's be a lot easier if they started out yellow like a pumpkin.

James, that one is getting close to the size of my culls...I just can't see them...but now that my plants are dying...much easier to see!
Hope all is well after the trip. Tasha was impressed with Jack..being a pre-vet...she thought he was a very handsome black lab....something about perfect shape.
