Just lost my 227 Bright and 194 Holloway vines to the darn squash bugs. Has anyone else had trouble killing the little buggars this year? I hit them with malathion, permethrin and sevin with no luck, finally a double dose of sevin, which burned the plants pretty severely. The Bright was taping 170" and the Holloway 155". Now the trick is keeping them out of the other vines....

Watermelon plants don't take kindly to being sprayed with sevin. The sevin may have done more harm than the squash bugs did.

Try something systemic, Asana or some Telstar. Just don't eat them.

The sevin no doubt damaged them, just used it as a last resort. Was hoping someone knew something to use that was effective and didn't render the melons non-edible...The bugs have moved into other plants that are on plastic, and are leaving the ones not on plastic alone. I think they are getting under the plastic and not getting the full effect of the spray...
