Taking it to weigh-in today at the Russleville, AL Watermelon Festival. He really wanted to try and keep the record in the Knight name, while I am deployed in Iraq, I think he will beat my record. If its not hollow I am going with 223lbs

Girth: 58.00
lengh: 34.00
Stem to bud: 39.00
I will post results later today

Hi Cliff, Hope everything is going well for you. Sounds like a good melon, maybe it will go heavy ! When do you come back to the states? Did you get to plant any over there ?

Thats great. Your dad did a great job, especially since we have had seemingly Iraq tempretures at home. Hope you get home soon. Take care.

Nice melon but realistically it doesn't sound like a melon over 200 pounds if it is just 34" inches long and 58" girth. He did a great job to grow one that big though. Perhaps it will go heavy like Chris said.I hope things are doing well over there & also I hope combat by US forces really is over.

Bright had an identical one (58 girth with length 34) and it weighed 226. So I would say that's a good guess.

I should add that most of the melons I have with a length of 34" are in the 170+ pound range, but that girth may save you. If it's a nicely shaped melon and does not have a big hollow spot in the middle, then you might achieve that 226 pound goal.

Sorry, I stand corrected again James. That must have been a VERY solid melon that Lloyd grew. I was just thinking of my 207 from last year which had a similar girth and was quite a bit longer. It did have a hollow spot though. It's amazing how much the weigh of same size melons can vary.
