I measured my top four melons last night. I have just one melon that seems to want to get to the 200 range this year with an impressive 27 pound gain over the last 9 days. The plants on all four of these melons are strong, and I hope to have continued growth over the next 30 days until competition. The #4 melon has fat spots that give me different girth measures, but I couldn't get the tape under in the right spots.

Let's be realistic. It takes the seven basic ballet movements to get any measures out of these melons with all the vine growth. In fact, you can not walk anywhere in the garden without stepping on vines.

(Numbered East to West)
#1 length=32, ss=45, ee=57, cir=84, girth=57, ott=186, est=172.1 (Gain of 27 pounds since 8/23)

#2 length=31.5, ss=40, ee=51, cir=81, girth=53.5, ott=172, est=138.8 (Gain of only 9 pounds since 8/23)

#3 length=30, ss=40.5, ee=53, cir=78, girth=53.5, ott=171.5, est=137 (Gain of 13.2 pounds since 8/23)

#4 length=27, ss=47, ee=51, cir=77, girth=62, ott=175, est=145.5(Gain of 13.3 pounds since 8/23)

#5 and #6 are smaller and unmeasured this time. They set late, and are on generally poor plants sharing the same hill. Let's just call these eaters.
