I don't know if it's me or what, but this time of year is the most boring time during the season. Melons have slowed to a crawl, no more big daily gains, weeds so big they would choke a goat, and weeks away from any weight off. I was close to pulling my last melon this weekend, just so I could start cleaning up but it has gained a little. Just seems to be sit a wait...But I really miss those 5lbs a day gains.

This year it is not a good time for me. Couldn't get the weather to cooperate. And I've just been using the same patch to long. I have thought about taking next year off to make me a new patch and get it right before using it. How far are you from Elkin Todd? I think it is coming up soon. When ever you do pick that one it's going to be a good one.

Hey Jake, Elkin is about 3.5 hours away and 3 weeks from now. Depending on how things work out I might go up there, would be nice to meet some people. Plus I would love to see some of those big pumpkins. It all just depends on my work shedule.

Also get to see how others have done.

It's not a boring time of year here, just not so exciting in the patch right now. The temps dropped about 30 degrees, but the plants are still holding. With the drop in temp, the color of the culls have changed to dark green, so the plant is stressed. I am into September mode, just hoping to keep the melons alive and add a few pounds. Not on me, but on the melons.

As for excitement, it's time to start thinking about fall bow hunting for deer, and rendezvousing weekends with the missus. Always something going on.

67" will be the biggest girth in my database. With 33.5 inches its all over the place between 219 and 259. Good luck.

Chris thank you for taking the time to show me your patch last week. And good luck tomorrow at the fair. I just dropped one off at the NC mountain state fair that weighed in at 195pounds. Pumpkin came in at 736 pounds...loved seeing those hitting the scale. Hit em heavy tomorrow!
