Minnesota Melon Man

Rochester, Minnesota

If you are in this hobby long enough you eventually see everything. This morning I was in the patch culling and reached down and just barely touched a 5" melon and it went pop.

You can see the results at: http://www.bigpumpkins.com/displayphoto.asp?pid=6749&gid=1

Hopefully that never happens with a large melon.

What can you say about something like that? I guess it just to prove that no matter how old & experienced a gardener is there are still lots of things that can happen that are complete surprises.

They seem more brittle this time of year, was finding culls just now, and 2 of them broke when i threw them on the grass. None did this summer.
