Trinity River Bottom

Not that it really matters but when you get seed from your melons would let me know if this is correct?
291 Kent 10 has brown seed
260 Kent 10 has brown seed
259 Kent 09 has brown seed
All the rest from 2010 have white seed.
I must be bored seed color is bothering me again.

Funny, cause the 255 Mitchell last year had white seed & this year's 260 is brown.

I don't have any idea how to predict.
the 255 Mitchell is brown
the 259 Kent is brown
Last year the 191 and 194 holloway were both grown on the 255 Mitchell one was white the other brown
Here's what happened this year
255 Michell X 259 Kent both brown produced a white seeded melon
191 Holloway (brown) X 259 Kent (brown) produced brown
194 Holloway (white) X 259 Kent (brown) produced white
Expected the 255X259 to be brown but wasn't

I wish i knew which color was dominate, then we could predict.
Doesn't really make a difference, its the plant, not the seed color !

The 255 Mitchell was grown from 168 Johnson which is a white seed. Maybe crossing with the 157 bright changed the color to brown on the 255. And I guess it would be possible for the white gene to show back up from time to time within the 255 seeds??? I agree with Chris, color not important at this point. I'd plant a pink seed if it would give me a PB...

I agree, I'm not color bias on seeds either, but its interesting. This one really confused me.
I grew some seeds from Dennis's Mtn Hoosier. Same melon threw two plants completely different assuming at first because of open pollination must have been from different males. One shared traits of Mtn Hoosier and Carolinas. The other only showed traits of MH. I crossed the one with both traits back to a CC.
Here is what found when I cut them.
The melon cross with CC and crossed back to CC had seeds that looked like MH seeds
The melon with out any CC traits had seed that looked like brown CC seeds.
So I don't know what I will get out of these next year
Either a really big dark rind melon, or a not so big striped melon.

I grew two 267 Edwards plants this year. The fruit from one had white seeds, the other had very brown seeds.

the 239 will throw brown seed . but not when it is used as the pollinator.
the 225 mitchell will also throw brown seed .with a white pollinator. but not when used as a pollinator .
I also agree at this time color may not be important .but we all want to move forward . and i think we will find out somewhere along the way 1 line is more dominate than the other.

I have two 239's and they are brown. I selfed one this past year and they were also brown.

I grew the 255 Mitchell and 267 Edwards this year. Both threw white seeds.

I selfed the 255- 126lbs,136& a 191lbs. all selfed all brown seed.Got a late start did not pollinate the 191 till july11th
