What do you think the best seeds this year to plant will be. Give us a little info on them. Come on state and WR holders help out the little guys and gals .

I'm not a record holder, but smart enough to know the 7 best seeds to plant this year are the 7 that hits dirt in Chris's patch.

239,Lenoard hottest of course,kent 291,260, Mitchell 255,Edwards 267& Pleasant 197 Leno 157 bright Look at GPC results for last 4 years to see what you like.Who won the Belgium 239S MERRY CHRISTMAS I was sleeping at the wheel.I hold the record for biggest in a 10 mile radius of my town.lol

Ice Man i agree with you on the 7 from chris's patch. what makes the 239 Leonard hot. I have grew the giant watermelons for about ten years. but i am new to BP. Glad to see all the info. I am not up on all the different growers. Always got my seed from the Brights and have always been very pleased with the results. Just trying to get up to date on these. Alot of interest in them in the last few years. Glad to see that. I think that the 300 lb. mark will br grown this coming year.

There are so many good ones out there right now that its hard to go wrong with any of them.

255 Mitchell , great plant , consistant producer of large winning melons.

239 Leonard , the results speak for it. 291 is NOT the top weight for this seed !

178 Mudd, Grows a big one everytime !

157 Bright, hardly any left, but we know what it can do if you can find one.

267 Pleasant, great potential here, I want to plant one if i can get some.

267 Edwards, Just look at the GPC results this year for what it can do. Needs to be planted .

There are many many more...plus crosses from the above.

seed isn`t everything -soil has alot to do with it, and watering ,methods,along with alittlebit of knowledge-to hear a guy talk about the size of a seed kills me -lol-its not the size of the seed that counts its whats behind it -like me I`d take a seed thats been hand pollinated over a seed thats opened any day,Why ?the string that it comes from is very important for data or any other reson for that matter-my 136 grew 6 over 150 and one at 176,first year out- maybe no world records ,but put in the right hands ,it could be a sleeper ,waiting to expload,when i first started growing these melons some of my best melons were off small melons under 100#s weed control is very important in this game of melons and I`ve got first hand experience from experiments I did this past season ,alot of work while trying to grow giant melons ,but I`m not, ready to share my ,opinions yet due to more experiments this year,But I`d have to say Chris is right!some of your best geans come from smaller melons

I agree Rob 1 of my first melons was in the 130s from store seed.I think a 300 can come from any seed with great soil & weather (mostly temps).

Correct, you need good seed to get the big ones, but good seed alone won't get you a big one ! It take the whole package.... seed,soil,weather,care. Leave out 1, and the true potential won't be reached.
