Ok, we were in the patch this morning & found a new type melon. Its a winter carolina cross. Should set a new record.
As of this am the measurements are ss=62, ee=110, cir=177 , the ott =349 or 782.6 lbs est weight. straight length is 77"
I believe this will beat any others. Pictures are in ms janets diarey for proof.

How fun, As I looked at it I couldn't decide if looked more like a watermelon or if a really large radioactive Zebra had passed through your yard and left a calling card. Y'all got too much time on your hands over there in Sevierville! But it sure does drive home the point of what's on your mind even in the snow and ice! P.S does that thing glow in the dark?

Awesome melon Chris. Don't forget to call the Guinness people back out...... but then again I don't no......do you remember the cover for the Diamond Rio album "Unbelievable"? I think they may have beaten you by a few tons.

Add a few bottles of vanilla, a few dozen eggs and a few bags of sugar and you could probably feed some "watermelon" to most of Sevier county.

Well if the pumpkins can start in 300-400 range & go to 1810, then why can't melons go from 300 to over 1000 ?????

I love snowdays !!!!!

Two or three snows in one winter is unbelievable here. We got 3 inches last weekend. I thought aboat growing one, but I couldn't break through the inch of ice on top.

1/15/2011 8:46:54 PM

Minnesota Melon Man

Rochester, Minnesota

Wow! You got 3" of snow. Obviously I am being facetious. We probably sill have 15 to 18 inches on the ground even after serious melting and rain around new years. I think I snowblowed around 6 inches this last weekend, but it was more drifting than anything.

I bought some standard garden seeds last night, so it won't be long now.

Hey James 3" here is like 9ft there

No it's not. 3" and I don't even bother to clear the driveway. I normally wait until we get a little more to make it worth while.

1/4 inch will = no school.
1 inch gets 2 days.
3 inches if its cold = no school for a week.
Those shady hills don't melt !

It drives me crazy that Georgia drivers are among the fastest in the country until we get a little ice. Then they start driving 10MPH with the brakes on. Most of them haven't figured out momentum is your friend.

up date on the ice melon..new snow will be on it Friday,,, the sunny fungis got on it last week and the turbo juice did not help John...so I do not recommend it on ice melons:)

Minnesota Melon Man

Holloway - Those of us that are experienced winter drivers know that momentum is your best friend and worst enemy. It just depends on the circumstance.

1/21/2011 9:11:02 AM

Walking Man

Absolutely true James. Get in a vehicle and head down a halfway steep hill, throw in a curve or 2 and a few parked vehicles all on solid ice and speed definitely becomes your enemy.

1/21/2011 8:42:25 PM

Peace, Wayne

Owensboro, Ky.

Momentum is okay!!! Until you need to stop!!! On ICE!!! 3.5" of snow here...schools closed for 2 days!!! Lived most of my life, 7th grade till I was OLD, in Michigan and used to walk to school every winter in 6" or more of snow...1.2 miles...uphill, both ways!!!!!! Schools never closed!!!!!!! Elementary school years in Tulsa, OK...the snow removal krew there were shoveling salt out of the back of a pick up truck!!!!!! 1" of snow in Tulsa, and below 32, off school, till the temps got high enough to melt it!!! It's awl about location, I guess!!! Peace, Wayne

I laugh at the fast drivers in Michigan they hit a patch of ice they shoot into a guard rail or off into the woods.I cruise by at 10 mph smiling & waving. Some even die freeze to death in the woods nobody finds then at nite.Slow down in the winter. The tv will still be there when u get home, your job will be there to, leave 20 minutes sooner.
