Thanks to the folks who were praying for my safe return. I made some Iraqi friends while I was gone, whenever I had the chance to give away some seeds and show them pictures I did, you should have seen the looks I got from some of the watermelon growers.

It appears lots has changed in the last year, my Alabama state record fell as did the world record. I had lots of time to think about innovative idea's that I look forward to trying this year.

If anyone is willing to part with some good seeds I would really appreciate it.

Hi 1SG and thanks for your service to our country.A lot really has changed on here. We now have our own watermelon growing organization. It exists within this basically pumpkin growers site.It is a non profit and all monies collected will be paid out to winning members.Membership is only $10 & I highly recommend it.It was just started this month and you can read a lot about it a few posts down under GWG, Giant Watermelon Growers. Anyway the main way of fund raising is through seed auctions. There is one going on now and just about any good seed you can imagine is available. This auction ends Saturday. You are more than welcome to some of my seeds but I lost track of the genetics and also failed to grow a good melon this past season. If you don't want to bid on the seed auction I am sure there are several growers on here who will be happy to provide you with seeds. If you do want to try to purchase at the auction then go to the home page and click on Message Board. Then click on Seed Auctions and Raffles. And if you would like to try my seed I will be happy to provide them to you. I have purchased and been given some very good seeds but feel mine are still worthy of a spot in my patch. They are my 207 from 2009 and it's offspring a 100 pounder from a vine that wasn't healthy due to grower error.Well it is great to have you back and good luck this coming season. Please consider a growers diary this year so that you can share your fun with other growers on this forum.

Thanks to all, the Army has been my life since 1986 and I have enjoyed every day of it, and it's an honor to serve my country.
To answer some questions:
my dad's melom scored well on the OTT scale but weighed in at 167lbs, it's the biggest he has ever grown and he was very proud of it.
I gave it my best effort to set the world record while I was in Iraq, the soil was great but the temps were terrible. I did get some some okra to grow until the temps reached 125F then it died.
I will be taking up the offers for free seeds, I want to keep crossing my line with good genetics.
Thanks to all.
