I do ,I water the base 8 feet out from stump,That would be a 16 foot wide circle,I think you can water stump in the North but down south may be a problem with heat & too much organic matter,Course I havent hit 200 pds so what do i know.I think whats more important than watering is always been my mistake, starting to late we need big plants by mid June to pollinate by mid to late to late June.Your next monster from the north will be pollinated mid June like the 21st,Bill Edwards waters with a sprinkler!to answer your question YES!

Hello Jerry, nice to see you here. Hope you sign up for the Giant Watermelon Growers club. I would try to stay away from the stump if possible.

I don't water too close to the stump. Their roots spread out wide and shallow. They can get stump rot like a pumpkin.

I personally haven't had a problem with stump rot, but I may know another that has.

My soil is basically amended sandbox sand, so maybe this protects me. My watering has been directly around the stump using a shower head mounted on a pole.

Hi Chris,I am glad to be here and love the site.Greetings to all my fellow growers. My watering is normaly 5 feet to the side and the main vine& plus some others.I try to get the vines to root, but i don't bury them. Thinking about watering around the stump, but not to close.
