Who does this? at first I was thinking no,I didnt use in peat pots,but think I will put in pots when transplanting to bigger containers, & mix with some garden soil&(potting mix)!Whats everybody do??whats your most valuable secret!!!lol
My supply man said yes as did a couple HH do it!

It would be crazy to add Mycorrhiza to your pots if you have it, you will get bigger /more roots which will mean a healthier , well established plant in the future.
We mix mycorrhiza into all of our starting medium, I've never seen root mass on peppers and tomatoes, not to mention pumpkins.

I use myco, makes for massive roots, but I don't use peat pots. I ussually use styrofoam or plastic pots and just make two slits, pop open and the roots are free to go. Peat ussually dries out on me before I know it. Guess I could pay better attention.

Yeah Jake,I slit the the 1 side of container & the bottom.(Plastic Folgers can)It opens like its hinged,then I duct taped the bottom & 1 side to hold to hold in place,Will remove tape when planting,pot will open sideways like a hinge!!I modified Marvs Method!

Kind of the same thing. I slit the entire bottom of a plastic pot and both sides and just leave 1/4" uncut where sides and bottom slits meet and 1/4" uncut about 2/3 up both sides. A little gentle exacto knife action and it opens in two halves.No tape.

I split one gallon pots then put them in another one gallon pot fill with dirt no tape needed. when ready to plant just slip out of pot and seperate and plant. easy!
yes use Mycorrhiza in potting soil.

I just set mine out in pots. When it's time to transplant, I just turn them upside down, pull them out of the pots and plant them. Never had a problem. What kind of problems can happen to cause ya"ll to go to so much pot modifications?

I make my own pots with news paper.I take the news paper(two pieces thick)wrap it around a large coffee can.Hold it together with hot glue gun,(sides and bottom) fill with seed starter.By the time I'm ready to put in the ground the news paper is already half decomposed.Just put the whole thing in the ground.Always has worked well for me.

The roots are more fragile than the plants!!! Who knows what kind of root damage is done by pulling em out, upsidedown, and puttin em in the hole!!(Especially, if you add mycho to the mix) I do it w/ eatin maters, and peppers(yank em out and plant em), but not with AG's, CC's, and Lopes Peace, Wayne
PS...Yes, mycho in starting mix!!!!

I must admit I do the same thing as the ice man. Perhaps it is cold but I have never dropped one of my babies. Remember Michael Jackson dangling one of his babies over the motel room balcony? He never dropped the baby though did he? And there is no way he would have. I never could understand what the fuss was all about. When she was young, I once dangled my daughter (upside down) over the rail of a high porch to cure a bad case of hiccups. It worked.

I used to cut the pots too. Now I do as TD and the ice man. I wouldn't call it lazy, I am just conserving energy!

I lost better than half the roots of one of my pumpkins in a rough pot removal prior to transplanting. I slammed the young plant in the hole, said a few short words, and waited for the plant to die. It grew like crazy ,won the weigh off setting the provincial record. I think we we worry too much.

I always mix the myco in the pot I'm germinating in. I have noticed that the roots don't seem to penetrate the peat pots as well as pumpkins do. Lost a plant or two that way.

I think your right Don,we worry to much I think the root bound fear is over rated.I took 2nd place at Pt.Elgin with a root bound Melon planted on June 7th or 8th.the plant was 5 to 6 weeks in the pot with a 2 foot vine.I still, being a nervous Charley dont take chances,I have somebody help me transplant so I have a 3rd hand if needed,To much effort to leave it to Mishaps,
